setanalysis: survey reports from one template
setanalysis produces the reports for the course evaluation and other student surveys. One line of R code per question creates the heading, table and figure for a Quarto report. A report table and a rule table decide which questions appear in which report, so a single template yields many reports with different content, for example one per faculty or degree programme.
- Reads raw data and codebooks exported from EvaSys
- One function per question type: single and multiple choice, rating scales, numeric and open-ended questions
- Whole question blocks, for example a scale with several items, in a single line of code
- Open-ended answers collected in an appendix, with links back and forth
- Consistent layout through a shared accent colour and bundled fonts
set-template is the matching Quarto extension. It provides the Typst layout and a complete example workflow, from the survey export to distributing the PDFs. All example reports are rendered and checked in GitHub Actions on every change.
Development
I wrote most of the package myself, starting from scripts I developed as a student assistant in 2019. Simon Männle, then a student assistant, made substantial contributions under my guidance after the code moved to GitHub. The package has snapshot tests (testthat), a pkgdown site and continuous integration with GitHub Actions. Documentation is in German, the README is also available in English.
